ELECTRONIC CAMMING

A unique feature of every Vamco Quantum Electronic Feed is Electronic Camming.  A press mounted resolver provides continuous press position data to the Quantum controller, allowing the feed to operate in a mode that is quite similar to cam driven press feeds.  Modified sinusoidal cam profiles are preprogrammed into the Quantum, and all feed and roll release motions are positionally defined and linked to the press position.  Unlike a cam feed however, feed angles and roll lift angles are programmable allowing optimal use of available feed angle for each die.  Material whip can be dramatically reduced and material handling simplified because of this unique Vamco feature.  Feed set-up in simplified, since all feed parameters can be programmed and stored for future usage.  The trail and error set0up that is required with all other servo driven roll feeds is completely eliminated.

Another important result of the Electronic Camming of the Quantum feed is the elimination of the lag that results from signal delays in other servo feeds.  Material progression and roll lift for pilot release occur at the precise press angle that has been programmed, regardless of press speed.  A common characteristic of mechanical press feeds is a variation of feedlength with press speed.  Quantum feeds operate with no feedlength growth throughout the entire speed range of the press.

RESOLVER FEEDBACK
QQuantum feeds utilize resolvers for all feedback functions.  Unlike optical encoders which are fragile and subject to failure under vibration, resolvers are rugged devices with no contacting parts.  Resolvers have proven reliable under the most demanding, high-shock pressroom environments.

CUSTOM DESIGNED DRIVE MOTOR
The drives motors utilized on Quantum feeds are custom designed and manufactured to operate at feed rates that where previously unattainable with servo driven roll feeds.  Quantum feeds can operate at speeds in excess of even cam driven roll feeds.  Furthermore, Quantum feeds do not exhibit any feed length variation with press speed that is present in adjustable mechanical feed systems.

ELECTRO-MECHANICAL ROLL RELEASE
Quantum feeds utilize a patented electromechanical roll release system which is capable of smooth, accurate, roll lift at press speeds up to 1500 spm.  Operating with modified sinusoidal motion profile, the Quantum electromechanical roll release system exhibits no timing variation or lag at elevated press speeds. Roll lift timing, duration and lift are all completely programmable, through the intuitive user interface.  Material thickness is also programmable, no manual adjustment are necessary.  Furthermore, Quantum feeds measure material thickness each time the rolls are opened and closed for material insertion, insuring proper feed setup.  No other feed can offer the combined flexibility and smooth high speed operation of the Quantum.
